About:
MD OBIDUL ISLAM, currently a 4th year Ph.D. student in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Old Dominion University (ODU), USA, did his bachelor’s degree in 2011 and M. S. in 2013 from the department of Applied Physics, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has teaching and research experience of 5+ years in two reputed universities in Bangladesh.
His research interest includes microscale heat transfer, laser-materials interactions, thin film surface and interface engineering and low-temperature thermo-modulation. He has designed and built optical thermometry-based experiments such as Time-Domain Thermoreflectance (TDTR) spectroscopy and Laser Multi Charged Ion (LMCI) generation system to measure the thermal conductivity, thermal boundary conductance, sound speed, optical properties, and electron, phonon, scattering mechanisms in a wide array of bulk materials and thin films from cryogenic to room temperatures and to produce laser generated ion-implanted thin films and time-of-flight (TOF) analysis.
He has published his research on several journals and conference proceedings and presented his work in scholarly gathering such as AVS Mid Atlantic Regional Meeting 2019 at Jefferson Lab and ESPEX 2022 at ODU. He contributed to Snowmass Summer Study in 2021 and 2022 by publishing two white papers. He continues his research aiming to improve the thermal and mechanical properties of thin metallic and superconducting films such as niobium and niobium-tin for application in advanced particle accelerators in the science and industrial frontiers and to create more energy-efficient technologies and processes. He is expecting to be graduate in the December 2023.
MD OBIDUL ISLAM is hardworking and passionate on his work. Being self-driven he is always open to take challenges and constantly set his own goals which drives him to do his best. He is well disciplined and highly organized. He always maintains logbooks while using equipment and take notes on meeting and discussion.
Being a very good team player and empathetic to others his leadership skills are notable. He possessed leadership position in every organization he attached with. He loves to meet diverse people to share ideas and to create new knowledge. His hobbies include travelling, reading autobiographies of social influential leaders, and participating in volunteer activities. He always acts respectfully to others and values highly the family, service, knowledge, duties, and integrity. His life philosophy is to live in such a way to make a difference in someone else’s life by helping others.
